JB CNY Snacks
Wify and the husband had a date with ex-colleague Michelle and Shandia to pick up cny goods in JB.. been a long while since i last met Shandia.. Had a great catch up reunion session on the way to custom... She is so caught up with her start up business and doing quite well :) Happy for her..
Didn't see Lavender this year and Four Season (the Malaysia one not Four season hotel) is left with a super pathetic small kiosk on the other side of the shopping mall... nevertheless we manage to grab some good deals..
Dinner @ Jang won korean restaurant by the sea ... they never fail to surprise us with their generous spread of side dishes.. i counted, there is a total of 20 sides! ♥♥♥
Ordered 2 portion of karbi pork rib, 1 portion of cheong guk chang fermented bean soup and 1 portion of bibimbab for Shandia the vegetarian.
Our yield today... after patronizing every kisok on the atrium floor, we find Season confectionery pineapple tart most buttery and tasty.. yum~ 490g 50pcs for SGD13.30 comes with nice packaging.. i even bought an extra box for my mum :)I wonder if i can keep them there till cny ...
Cod fish crisp RM$6.90 each
Bee cheng hiang prawn roll RM23.90... Hm... Why SG brand BCH? Because we find rest of Malaysia brand prawn roll spiciness are too mild!
Gourmet bakgua (bacon) @ RM9 per 100g.. this is about 300g here for two of us... uber greasy 50% pure lard but good stuff are never mend to be healthy :)
Mini luggage from SDS confectionery RM$20.90
So realistic, there is a handle and a wheel... great idea if you have baby niece or nephew in your family.
Upon open it up, there is 6 packet of Cantonese style seaweed egg roll.. though i don't eat.. but i have no reason not to buy this cute little luggage! more over it's only about SGD $8!!! Cuteness overload
Have you top up your CNY goods?

Korea Trip - Daegu, Jeonju (Day 5)
2nd January 2010
We are moving again, this time its 2.5 hours of journey north up to Jeonju. We start to appreciate short naps on these long hours bus ride... traveling via tour agencies is hectic and tiring!
A stop over station
Food overloaded @ 9am in the morning
Walnut cake. One of a kind traditional snacks widely available on Korea streets, bus train station and stop over..
Freshly made walnut cake taste so much better than those the husband bought back for me during his business trip last year
Our bubble jacket made up a comfortable cushion support for us to take nap :)
Mt. Maisan Provincial Park where its 2 mountain peaks resemble the ears of a horse. Nestled at the foot of the mountain is Tapsa Temple where you will be enthralled by 80 pagodas which are 10-metre high rare natural rock formations.
Saw BBQ rib on the way up hill
The whole mountain is frozen, there is no need to refrigerate raw meat.. Saw many vendors displaying racks and racks of rib outside their stall, there is no flies to woe about, weather is the best natural fridge.
Dog house!
Local breed Jindotke, look so puffy and so adorable!
Horse Ear right behind this mountain! more walking to go~
This place is so amazing! i really appreciate the privilege of living in a county with four season.. Hope i can pick up a job here next time when the husband turned 36...Actually this is partially the reason why i keep stay in asia pacific companies... i hope to stay relevant so i can get a office job when i relocate next time..
Cotton candy man got his marketing stunt to attract customers
Hobakyoet Caramel hard candy, similar to our oriental DingDingTang
Sometime i do wonder if Korea have 4000 yrs of history, why they have so much similarity as China? They even have traditional candies like dingdingtang and our longxutang in their land and the local consider them as their traditional treats... Hm...
Horse Ear mountain! Some of the uncle from my tour group exclaimed " Har like tt only ar, don't look very special leh" Hahaha
Rest of the 80s pagoda here are stacked up by 1 man without any help of glue, silicon or any solidified medium to stablise the pagoda structure.Everything is by balancing and determination.
Technique of keeping them hold on to each other.. ?!
Peak of the pagoda exhibit, also the biggest one of them all. This statue is named heaven and earth.
Wish corner for public to stack their own pagoda
Yok Su mountain mineral water
Mountain herbs
Comfort food on cold weather
Art and craft store, selling art craft work from natural resources like trees, stones, jade and other natural gem..
Granny making Ttok (mochi rice cake)
Next stop: Korean Traditional Wine Museum
Variety of Soju
Equipment of making
Kayyongpeh, a special designed cup to prevent people from drinking too fast.. !! There is a small hole below the cup and water will not flow out as long as water level inside cup never reach 3/4 full. So let say if i pour over 3/4 full, everything will flow down until bottom surfaced.
Raspberry wine
Next, we visit Jeonju Traditional Craft Works Exhibition Hall to admire the beauty of traditional Korean crafts.
Kutare, Korean style of dragon beard caramel candy (Longxutang). Both are candies served to the king long long time ago... my findings will be the Korean one taste better... they are pulling the candy roll apart in a tub of flour rather than normal table top... making each and every string of candy very define and solid. Ingredient wise, they use mix nuts and black sesame instead of pure sugar peanut to enhance the flavour.. this is like a version up to the traditional candy i know..
Comes in a nicely packed box SGD $6, same price as Singapore
The husband bought this for me :)
Another popular walnut confectionery
They are individually packed. Cost double the price compare to the one we bought at the stop over station... Instead of mixing with red bean, this cake shop uses pure walnut paste (brownish) and there is even a chunky piece on each cake. We see the reason for the queue now~
The husband is so disappointed.. he miss the warm and soft caramel rice cake he use to chew on in his younger days.
Ppopki, old school candy... Saw once on a Taiwan variety and this is what people eat in the older days where candy are imported and expensive.. Asian came out with this brilliant idea of mixing sugar with soda power.. and pop! Husband's childhood favorite.. he even ate this "only for children" candy on the street!
Check in to Jeonju Riviera Hotel. Guide say this is the best hotel over in Jeonju (province) and i believed her this time... Look at the view from our room....
spectacular right..........
We skip dinner with our tour group meeting Leehoon.
Visit Leehoon's mum...
Street snack
I wanted this so much... Kimari (fried sweet potato noodle with seaweed)!!! but the husband and leehoon forced me to throw this away.. they say it's too dry and no people eat this on the street... they only eat it at the kisok -_-!
Looking around for my cheonggukchang shop!
Check out the price... dirt cheap!!! Average about $4 a dish! It's a steal! :)
Leehoon's spicy pork with rice
My ever love.. cheonggukchang! ultimate stinky ultimate shiok! Absolute love!
Inho's spicy chicken soup
Leehoon introduce us to Angel In-Us Coffee after dinner... they are like Starbucks inspired coffee house.. Coffee here are good.. as i am paying "good" price too.. $6-7 per cuppa
Coffee bean chocolate
Leehoon's americano black
Inho's green tea latte
Dorebang KTV. I love their interior design, gave people a very homely and welcoming aurora.
KTV name Story! They go by room charge. About $20 for 2 hr with no fruit, towel, KOD, compulsory drink charges... Typical lousy and crampy Korean ktv room in Tanjong Pagar will cost $30 per hour, 1 jar of compulsory beer $30 and some (Bi Korean ktv) even compulsory fruit plate for another $30-50!!
Leehoon and Inho
Cuteness overload dorebang room
I found a friend there... BTW Korean ktv have only Chinese song from Lessie chong era! Peiye told me she went once and was forced to sing Shanghaitang there.. I am used to it... so instead of flipping through the pages looking for any song i can remember from my mum's era, i rather just be my full time tambourine girl..
I know the husband heart Singing.. but he is restricting himself to prevent from overspending in sg ktv.
Had a great night! loud fun and lotsa out of tour experience... more fun to be continue on day 6 of our Korea trip!
